Murder In Elibrada: Police Nab Six Supects
Six suspects have been arrested by the police in connection with the alleged killing of one Chief George O. S. Ohia in Elibrada Community in Emohua Local Government Area.
The Tide learnt that the deceased who was the chief-elect of the community, was gruesomely murdered by unknown persons on the 14th of December, 2012 on his way home from the farm.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Rumuji in the Emohua Local Government Area, Mr Kingsley Anyanwu told The Tide via a telephone conversation that the six suspects arrested by the division and handed over to the state had been moved to Zone Six, Calabar.
Mr Anyanwu also said that the division has taken measures to check the breakdown of law and order in the community.
Similarly, the Investigating Police Officer (IPO) at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Inspector Nwigwe confirmed the movement of the suspects to Calabar, headquarters of Zone Six.
He however said that with the movement of the suspects to the Zonal level, only the zone can speak on further development in respect of the matter.
Also when contacted on phone, the Chairman of the Elibrada Community Development Committee (CDC), Mr Festus Amadi confirmed the incidents but said that he was already in Calabar in connection with the matter.
He promised to call back the reporter when he returns to Port Harcourt.
Meanwhile, the family of the slain chief has called for justice.
In a petition made available to The Tide and signed by one Chizenim Ohia, the family regretted the inability of the police to apprehend some of the key suspects in connection with the alleged murder of the chief.
The petitioners who alleged that their father was killed in connection with the alleged chieftaincy squabble in the community, noted that some of the key suspects had openly vowed not to honour police invitation, boasting that they belong to certain powerful societies and also have powerful connections.
