FRSC Distances Self From Issuance Of Vehicle Number Plates
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Oyo State, says its primary concern is ensuring safety on the highways and not the issuance of number plates.
The Sector Commander of the FRSC in the state, Mr Godwin Ogagaoghene, told newsmen last Tuesday in Ibadan that the command had never handled the issuance of number plates.
“Prior to the suspension by the National Assembly, never had we handled the issuance of number plates.
“ This had always been handled by the Oyo State Board of Internal Revenue and its partners.
“We are focused now more than ever on ensuring that our roads are safe while frowning against every act of highway indiscipline by road users,’’ he said.
Ogagaoghene said public sensitisation campaigns on the proper use of the roads had intensified over the past months while mobile courts had begun operations.
“Sensitisation campaigns have intensified in the motor parks on the dangers of negligence to road traffic laws.
“We have also increased public awareness on road safety through the use of broadcast media and religious bodies and I can confidently say the feedback has been encouraging,’’ he said.
He, however, warned those who were in the habit of repairing or abandoning broken down vehicles on the roads to desist or face the risk of getting them impounded.
“Logistics are in place to acquire more towing vehicles, including heavy duty tow trucks.
“ Drivers who habitually leave their vehicles on the road should not be surprised if they fall victim,’’ he said.
