Rivers Powerlifter To Represent Nigeria At Olympics
A female Powerlifter with the Rivers State special sports, Ivory Nwokorie has been invited to a training tour by the National Sports Commission NSC, to further prepare ahead of the forthcoming Olympic tagged “London 2012”.
This was made known Tuesday, during a telephone interview with Tidesports in Port Harcourt.
Nwokorie, who scaled through all powerlifting trials held in and outside the country to screen and pick athletes that would represent the country at the London 2012 Olympic, later this year, was finally invited to a training tour in Ibadan.
According to her, she would do her best to ensure that she represents her father-land well and said that she was working hard to overcome challenges in the camp and to compete favourably with her counterparts in other parts of the world.
The powerlifter attributed her progress to hardwork and determination to excel in her chosen career, saying that, she would not let Rivers people and the country down when the 2012 Olmpic kicks off.
“What I need now is the prayers and support of Nigerians, it will not only encourage me to perform well, but also see me through the period of the games”, she said.
Nwokorie, noted that the London Olympics would be her debut in any international competition. She has participated in the National Sports Festival thrice for Rivers State, before being picked to represent the country for the first time.
