…As Gowon Condemns Sect Over Bombing …Says Nigeria Yet To Learn From Civil War
Former Head of State, GenYakubu Gowon (rtd), has condemned the spate of bombing in various parts of the North by the islamist sect, Boko Haram, lamenting that Nigerians are yet to learn from the Civil War.
Gen Gowon who stated this in Port Harcourt yesterday at a dinner organised by the Christ The Redeemer’s Friends Universal (CRFU) regretted that he thought that after the Nigerian Civil War, there would be lasting peace and unity in the country.
The former Head of State noted that suicide bombing which the Boko Haram uses to attack and bomb some places was never in the character of Nigerians, noting that foreigners had infiltrated the system.
He identified disunity among the people as one of the factors causing conflict and crisis in the country, adding that God was relying on the people for Him to accomplish his purpose.
He called on the churches to always work for the unity and peace of Nigeria.
The retired army general also urged Nigerians and the military personnel to always secure the border cities and villages and also work harder and fish out the infiltrators.
Also speaking at the occasion, Lt Gen Joshua Dogonyaro (rtd) urged Nigerians to fight corruption so that the country would be free of evil.
Dogonyaro who gave testimony how he was converted to Christianity warned Nigerians to watch their utterances actions and relationship with God saying that time has come for Nigerians to love one another.
