18th NSF: Lagos Re-Constitutes Associations
There are indications that the Lagos State Government may re-constitute new boards of Lagos State sports associations but may delay reconstituting the council’s board.
An official of the council who pleaded anonymity told Tidesports in Lagos that intrigues had been stalling efforts at re-constituting the board of the council.
“There are so many interest groups jostling to head the new board, apparently because the state would be hosting the National Sports Festival next year.
“The stakes are now high and so many politicians and top sports personalities are striving to outdo each other to win the top job of chairman of the board.
“I am certain that sudden interest for the job is because of pecuniary benefits from jobs to be handled before the Games.’’
The source said there were also agitations against reconstituting the board since according to them, the association chairmen could function better without a board.’’
Bashir Agunloye, spokesman Lagos State Sports Council, told newsmen that he was not competent to comment on the matter.
Tidesports also learnt that most of the former board members had been regular callers at the Sports Ministry Alausa, lobbying to be retained.
Governor Babatunde Fashola was quoted as saying that the dissolution of the board and association was to rejuvenate sports in the state ahead of the festival.
