Barely 24 hours after receiving the Festival Torch for the 17th  National Sports Festival, tagged “Garden City Games”, which the state is hosting, Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, says the state is ready to host the nation in Port Harcourt.

Governor Amaechi who spoke yesterday in Port Harcourt, while inspecting games facilities at the newly built Adokiye Amiesimeka Sports Complex at the Greater Port Harcourt City, said, now that some facilities have been completed, we are ready.

He explained that the major facilities at the games village were virtually ready, expressing disappointment however that the stadium complex would not be completed as planned before the games, but assured that the state would showcase the kind of stadium and sports complex that is being built, futuristically, for the country to see.

The State Government, he said, was however working on the venue for the opening and closing ceremonies for the games, as well as other venues within Port Harcourt, to host other sporting events during the games.

He reassured that the “Garden City Games” would be a rich harvest of talents for the country.

While driving, and leading his convoy on the way back to Port Harcourt, Governor Amaechi stopped his convoy at GRA junction along Aba Road, on noticing traffic jam, and joined Road Traffic Officials to control and ease traffic flow on the busy highway.

The governor, who was later joined by the TIMARIV boss, Mr Nelson Jaja, had trekked from waterlines junction, from where the traffic build-up started, to GRA junction, to ascertain the cause of traffic hold up on the axis.
