The General Manager, Rivers State Newspaper Corporation, Mr. Celestine Ogolo, has called for collective efforts to sustain development in the state.
Ogolo, represented by the Corporation’s Director of Administration Mr. Alfred Nwogu made the call while addressing members of the Rivers State Youth Leadership Initiative when they visited the corporation last Thursday.
The General Manager said the youths had important role to play in sustaining the peace and development of the state. According to him, there could be no feasible development in the midst of crisis such that the state witnessed when Governor Chibuike Amaechi came on board.
He noted however, that the crime rate in the state had reduced drastically, attributing it to the support of youths in the state.
He therefore advised the youths to identify themselves wholly with all moves that would ensure peaceful living and development of the states for the bettement of all.
He used the occasion to assure the NGO of the support of the Corporation, printers and publishers of The Tide group of newspapers in its efforts to mobilise the youths for national peace and development.
Speaking earlier, the Coordinator of the group, Comrade Michael I.A. Kalio had lauded The Tide for its efficient coverage of events in the state, adding that they would want to partner with the state newspaper in carrying out youth development programmes in the state.
He also commended the state government and the Commissioner for Youth Development for the various leadership programmes they had organised for youths of the state, stressing the need for Youth Development Centre in the state.
The youth coordinator also commended the state governor for his vision to empower the youths of the state and urged the youths to carry out their civic responsibility by registering to enable them vote in the forthcoming election.
