In a bid to ensure that players of Rivers State government owned football Clubs, Sharks, Dolphins and Rivers Angels Football Clubs receive their salaries promptly, the State executive council, SEC has approved that the players salaries from part of the State’s recurrent expenditure in the State’s annual budget.
Hon. Boma Iyaye, the Commissioner for Sports in the State disclosed this shortly after the State Executive meeting, on Wednesday in Port Harcourt.
According to him, the decision was taken in order to avoid the cases of irregular payment of salaries and to increase the productivity of the players.
“This new development is widely appreciated, it will eliminate salary problems and ensure that the players stay motivated,” Iyaye said.
The sports boss, urged the footballers to bring out their best while serving the state through various competitions and tournaments.
He hoped that this gesture would spur them to put in their best, because it is designed to form part of motivational packages.
He assured that government will continue to ensure that welfare of the clubs were properly taken care of.
