Management Bans Satchet, Bottled Water, Drinks In Stadium
The management of Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano, on Friday announced a ban on the use of water sachets, bottled and canned mineral drinks and bottled water in the main bowl during the 2010/11 league season.
A statement by the Stadium Manager, Shehu Buhari, made available to the Tide Sports soruce in Kano, said the measure was taken to ensure the mainbowl remained clean during and after matches.
He said the ban on fans from bringing the materials was also aimed at ensuring that they were not used “for any negative purposes”.
Buhari said the management took measures to minimise the hardship fans might face during their stay in the stadium by stationing water containers at strategic placesfor their use.
He called for fans’ understanding on the measures taken by the management as it was also in their interest.
He assured them that everything would be done within the law to make them comfortable whenever they were at the stadium.
Reports has it that some fans, particularly supporters of the Kano-based, Kano Pillars FC, used water sachets, cans and plastic bottles as missiles during matches in the stadium.
The missiles were easily available as they were bought from spectators who hawk their wares during games.
