Rivers Football Team Shapes Up, Targets Gold
In preparation for the 17th National Sports Festival billed to hold in Port Harcourt later this year, the Rivers State football team for the fiesta has commenced warm-up matches to enable players gain adequate fitness.
This was disclosed y the coach of the team, Coach Tony Chuku in a telephone interview with Tidesports , yesterday.
He said that the team would play three ore matches before the first phase of the close camping comes to an end.
According to Chuku, the team has played seven games and won all, he added that the result is an indication that the state would do very well in football event of the festival.
Honesty, from what I have seen, my team have the potentials to take the gold medal of the football event. The players are committed, determined and technically sound”, Chuku said.
The festival coach continued that his optimism was hinged on the overall performance of the team in the seven matches played so far.
“My target is to ensure that I build a formidable football team for the festival if that is done, I will be the happiest man on earth”.
Coach Chuku, who is also the Chief Coach of Rivers State Football Association used the forum to call on other coaches in the camp to ensure that athletes are trained adequately as the camping of athletes is not a jamboree.
“I will used this forum to advise my colleagues to ensure that their athletes are given the required training, so that the state would win the festival he said
