Nigeria plans to jump-start their Golden Jubilee celebrations with a festival atmosphere at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
At a send forth dinner last weekend, President Goodluck Jonathan urged the Super Eagles to bring home the World Cup as a jubilee present for the nation.
“I call on you to bring home the golden cup as a present for our country’s golden jubilee,” he said.
Tidesports has learnt that plans are afoot to take thousands of Nigerians to the World Cup in South Africa, where cultural celebrations and Nigeria-themed expositions will hold at the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF-sanctioned Naija Fan Village.
Nkechi Obi, CEO of Premium Sports, managers of the Naija Village in Durban said, “I have not been informed that that is what the government plan to do,” she said when asked for confirmation. “But if that is the case, then I must say that I am happy that they are considering it and I hope it sees the light of day.
“This year will mark 50 years of Nigeria as an independent nation and what better way to start than by rewarding the ordinary citizens for their years of silent toil for their nation.”
