NBBF Urged To Popularise Basketball
The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) has been urged to popularise the game in the country.
Thomas Bagobori, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Director of Sports, made the call at the ongoing National Dvision 1 Basketball League in Kaduna.
Bagobori told newsmen that the NBBF had a lot of work to do in making the game a household sport in the country.
The call followed poor spectator turnout at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium indoor hall, venue of the league.
He blamed the federation for “not adequately publicising its tournaments to attract spectators.
“The federation has a lot to do, they have to take steps in popularising the sport in the country.
“Basketball is a wonderful game but as you can see those coming to cheer these players are not many.
“The players need to be cheered just like in football and other sports,” he said.
Bagobori commended the NBBF for reviving the Division 1 League after an eight-year absence.
