Brazil and Cameroon are in talks to partner with Nigerian sports marketing company, Premium Sports, over a partnership at the Nigeria Village which has been set up in Durban, South Africa for the World Cup.

Idris Adama, the Nigeria Football Federation, (NFF), Head of Marketing informed tidesports source that the two countries contacted the federation after failing to secure spaces of their own at Durban.

“Brazil and Cameroon have opened discussions with us about partnership on the Naija Village in Durban,” Adama said. “Although it is a Nigerian project, we are making it into a distinctly African experience, and Brazil are happy to key into that.

“Both countries did not get to Durban on time and we picked the best spot. They have no time now to set up their own village, so they are keen to pay in order to partner with us.”

Adama declined to name the cost of the partnership, but our source understands from other sources that it is in the region of $1 million.

He did however, confirm that other African countries and corporate businesses in those countries have enquired about taking up spaces at the Village.

The Naija Village is a project owned by Nigerian sports marketing company, Premium Sports, but facilitated by the NFF, and Premium Sports CEO Nkechi Obi says discussions are ongoing.

“Nothing has been agreed yet. We are meeting with the NFF soon to discuss things but we are hoping that Nigerian businesses take advantage of the opportunities before it is all snapped up by others.”

Adama added that at least three state governments; Borno, Lagos and Cross River have booked spaces at the Naija Village, with more expected.

But he also said it was not just about big, corporate and government interests.

“We are providing the cheapest services, including accommodation for Nigerians and others coming to South Africa for the World Cup. A bed and breakfast at the Village will cost just $150 per night, which is the cheapest anywhere.

“Additionally, there is tight security in place, and residents will have automated access cards, while SuperSport have agreed to have live, large screen broadcast of all games at the Village.”
