Akinoye Optimistic Of Successful Outing At African Championship
National Tennis coach, Rotimi Akinoye, has expressed optimism that the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF), would perform creditably at the forthcoming 2010 African Tennis Championship tagged “Davis Cup” scheduled to hold 3rd-10th May, this year in Morocco.
Akinoye, stated this recently during maiden edition of the Niger Delta Development Commission’s (NDDC) “Catch Them Young Tennis Clinic/Tournament at the tennis section of the Port Harcourt Club, Rivers State.
He continued that the country cannot afford to drop potential talents from getting international exposure.
According to him, Tennis is a capital intensive sport but with the quality of players Nigeria has, the nation will do well at the tournament billed to hold in Morocco, next month.
Nigeria will compete against seven African countries while Team Nigeria is in African-zone Group 3 by the grouping.
Earlier, the National Tennis boss had advised that the competition should be an annual event to enable the country achieve her aim and meet the international model as well as improving the skills and standard of the athletes in the game.
He thus, called on corporate bodies, well-meaning individuals and multi-national to extend their support to the development of tennis in the country.
