Home-Based Players stake Claim For W/Cup Slots …As Nigeria Hosts Congo DR

Home based league players, who have been overlooked in the Super Eagles set will today have the opportunity to make statement for themselves and stake claims for a place for the world Cup in South Africa as they take centre stage in today’s international friendly with Congo DR.

Nigeria will be fielding a largely local league players with Obinna Nsofor, Dele Adeleye, Onyekachi Apam, Sani Kaita and Elderson Echiejile being the only foreign based players for the tie.

The match which will in part be a warm up game for the forthcoming World Cup will afford Nigeria’s new technical adviser, Lars Lagerback the opportunity to watch the home based talents closely at the Abuja National Stadium.

Before the  commencement of the friendly, the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF is scheduled to officially unveil Lagerback as Nigeria’s coach and the persons that will assist him in his new role.

Tidesports source learnt that Lagerback’s assistants are former Eagles Coach Austine Eguavoen, Daniel Amokachi and Alloy Agu who assisted former head coach Shuaibu Amodu.

According to Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi, Head, Technical Department, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) “All the assistants will be unveiled today and we will let Nigerians know the team that will take us to the World Cup in South Africa in June.

Ogunjobi confirmed on Sunday in Abuja that their unveiling would precede the Super Eagles friendly game with the Democratic Republic of Congo at the Abuja National Stadium.

“When I say the team, I am referring to the technical crew, the doctors and all those that will work hand in hand and support the new technical adviser,” Ogunjobi said.
