The Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Vincent Ogbulafor, has commended Speaker of the House of Representatives Dimeji Bankole and members of the House for their roles in ensuring Nigeria’s stability in the last few months.

He commended the lawmakers on Thursday in Abuja during a meeting of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) and the PDP caucus in the House.

He particularly lauded Bankole for his leadership style and for the way he was managing the affairs of the House.

“We want to specially commend your role in piloting the affairs of the House during the last turbulent months.

“We also appreciate how you ensured that the House contributed immensely to the stability and peace of the nation against forces of the opposition bent on causing chaos and instability,” he said .

Ogbulafor said that the PDP, as the majority party in the House, must ensure that forces of destabilisation were not allowed to triumph.

He said that the NWC was soliciting the House support for Acting President Goodluck Jonathan, while urging the lawmakers to expedite action on the constitution’s amendment and the Electoral Reforms Bill.

Ogbulafor said that the prompt conclusion of work on the constitution’s amendment and the electoral reforms bill would enable the PDP and other parties to unfold their plans for the 2011 general elections.

He urged the House to continue to support the Speaker in efforts to accomplish the assignment.

Responding, Bankole said that it was the duty of the House to ensure that the country remained united, stable and peaceful in the face of recent constitutional challenges.

He pledged the House determination to ensure a stable polity and good governance in the country.

Bankole said that the House had received the report of the Constitutional Review Committee and the Electoral Reforms Bill.

He said that the House had decided to postpone its Easter recess to enable members to vote on the recommendations of the two reports.

He promised that the House would not fail the nation in the critical assignment.
