Abia PDP To Punish Members Campaigning For Orji’s Re-election
Abia State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says it has not formed any alliance with incumbent governor. Chief Theodore Orji, for any electoral purposes, warning that it would punish members who allegedly have been campaigning for the re-election of the governor using the PDP platform.
The party stated this Tuesday when it dissociated itself from a group known as PDP Ochendo Re-run or Abia Re-union which the party claimed was canvassing for support for the re-election of Orji in the name of PDP. Governor Theodore Orji is of the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA).
Chairman of Abia PDP, Chief Ndidi Okereke, told newsmen at the Ojike Street office of the party in Umuahia that the PDP Ochendo Re-run or Aba Re-union led by one Chief Allen Nwachukwu does not have the mandate of PDP leadership at any level to canvass for the re-election of the governor under the umbrella of the party.
Okereke said the activities of the group have caused and continues to cause Abia PDP faithful and its leadership “great consternation and embarrassment”.
“Abia State PDP hereby dissociates itself from this fraudulent contraption designed to confuse Abians and malign the leadership of our party. For the avoidance of doubt, Chief T.A. Orji is not a member of PDP and there is no alliance with him and his party for any electoral purposes at all!”, Okereke stressed.
The party, therefore, alerted its members and the public to beware of “such antics”, which according to the Abia PDP boss would “assume more desperate dimensions as the next election approaches, in their bid to white-wash the bad governance in the state”.Okereke said the party has initiated disciplinary measures against all PDP members involved in the campaign for the re-election of Governor Orji, using the PDP platform, insisting that they were deceiving party faithful and teeming Abians.
He said that PDP was big enough to accommodate everybody wishing to join the party, adding that Orji would be welcome should he decide to join PDP.
Orji himself has often said that he was under pressure to cross over to PDP but has resolved to remain in PPA.
As at press time, Chief Allen Nwachukwu could not be reached for his reaction.
