Works Commissioner Harps On Projects Completion
As part of measures to ensure tthat the various construction projects in Rivers State are durable and sustainable, the Commissioner for Works, Hon. Dakuku Peterside, has devised different strategies to address complaints and anomalies on specific sites. On his recent inspection visit to roads within Emohua Local Government Area (EMOLGA), Peterside ordered staff of the Ministry to undertake comprehensive laboratory testing for materials used on the Elibrada – Oduoha stretch. He noted that the quality of asphalt must also meet the expected standard, otherwise it would be removed and the contractor made to bear the cost of replacement.
At Rumuodogo meeting with the chiefs and people of the community to address complaints that led to a stop work order on the contractor by the community the Works Commissioner, who was accompanied by top officials of the Ministry and Rev C.T.T George assured them that due consideration would be given to their concerns and that the quality and stretch of the road project would not be compromised.
At Ndashi and Akpoku, in Etche Local Government Area (ELGA) the Commissioner assured that Governor Rotimi Amaechi was determined to improve their lives with carefully developed and executed projects.
Speaking after inspecting a number of projects including Ndoki Road in Port Harcourt Township, Rumuolumeni shore protection Project, the Dexa Family Church Road in Trans Amadi and Okehi-Mba-Akpoku Road, the commissioner reiterated the focus of the present administration on infrastructural development, saying “we will not compromise standards and quality of materials used for our projects, because we seek durability and sustainability for the improved living of our people.
Peterside also praised the contractor handling the Doxa Family Church Road but expressed concern about the pace of work on the Woji-Akpajo Road, where the contractors, have been told to expedite action and deliver in good time, and in line with specifications.
Finally, he pleaded with the people of Rivers State to bear with the government, in view of the continued inconveniencies that the delay in completion of the road projects was causing adding assuredly that “the state will meet all its financial obligations to all contractors and so they will not have any excuse not to deliver.
