Take Advantage Of Dry Season, Amaechi Tells Contractors
Contracting firms handling road projects in Rivers State have been directed to expedite action on road jobs by taking advantage of the current dry season to finish all the earth work on their project sites.
Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, who gave the directive yesterday, during an unscheduled inspection of some on-going projects in the state, assured the contractors of the state government’s readiness to meet its own obligation in the contract.
The Governor who was accompanied on the inspection by his wife, Judith, told the companies to engage more hands so as to speed up their work, for according to him, “Rivers State has very short period of dry season, and we must utilize the period.”
At the Rumuokwuta-Choba Road, Governor Amaechi directed the contracting firm, Homan Engineering, to excavate the layer used for remedial approach during the rainy season, and do fresh laying of laterite before tarring to ensure durability of the road.
In an interview with newsmen, during the project inspection exercise, the wife of the State Governor, Dame Judith Amaechi, who accompanied her husband on the unscheduled inspection visit, expressed satisfaction with the extent and quality of projects being embarked upon by the state government.
Dame Amaechi said “I actually came out to see what I hear from people, and to assess how the government is doing in terms of project execution, I am impressed to know that the governor is making sure that his God given mandate is being executed to the glory of His name”.
“I feel happy with what I have seen and I want to thank God for the opportunity because the benefit would be for the entire state, especially for women and children”, Mrs Amaechi said, and lauded the governor and his team, for the good work they are doing to take the state to greater heights.
Projects inspected include the Trans-Amadi-Oginigba-Rumuogha Road, two Model Secondary Schools at Eleme, and Tai Local Government Areas, the Rumuokwuta-Choba Road amongst others.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
