Nigeria has extended until 2014 and significantly ramped up their partnership deal with Adidas to a total value of over 10 million euros (about N2 billion), according to Tide Sports’ source.

This represents a massive increase from the $300 000 (about 200 000 euros) deal of the existing contract, which is due to expire in 2010.

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) chiefs led by President Sani Lulu Abdullahi, were at Adidas headquarters some two months ago to negotiate and sign an extension.

The deal was signed and sealed even before the Super Eagles qualified for next year’s World Cup in South Africa.

However, the new contract will only start from 2011.

Under the previous deal signed in 2007 by the current NFF administration, Nigeria were paid $300 000 as rights fee, with an equivalent amount in product supplies, according to an official of the Glass House.

This was an improvement in the original deal signed by the Ibrahim Galdaima-led NFA in 2004 and worth $200 000, when Adidas beat off competition from Danish kit makers Hummel to take over from Nike as the Nigeria national team sponsors.

Under the terms of the current contract, the NFF will get 3711 197.50 euros in cash as Rights Fee. Product supplies will total 6400 000 euros for a total of 10111 197.50 euros (about N2,222,223.10).

According to the terms of the contract, those commitments exclude a 10 per cent royalty fee due to the NFF on annual net sales of branded Adidas/NFF products.

It also excludes supplies for the promotion of football games in Nigeria and a yet undisclosed qualification bonuses to all national teams when they qualify for major competitions.
