Journalists’ Health Workshop Ends In PH
A two-day Health Training Workshop for Journalists on Roll back Malaria Project organised by the Federal Ministry of Health in conjunction with the state Ministry of Health has ended in Port Harcourt.
In a communique issued in Port Harcourt, the participants, called for an intensive enlightenment campaign on the effect of malaria.
It emphasised that the Roll back Malaria Project of the Ministry of Health should collaborate with relevant Ministries of Environment, Local Government, Education and National Orientation Agency to educate the people on environmental management.
The participants advocated for the formation of a monitoring task force to monitor the effective distribution of long lasting insecticidal nets.
The communique stated that it was necessary for the Ministry of Health to organise periodic workshops and training for Journalists and remarked that Journalists should have access to constant information on line on Roll back malaria.
The communique which was signed by eight Journalists who were participants called on the Nigeria Medical Association to come out with measures to ensure that private Health Practitioners comply with the RBM and appealed to the State House of Assembly Committee on Health to be involved in the project.
The participants remarked that Government while intensifying efforts in the scale-up measures, should be thinking of total malaria elimination as it is done in some African countries.
