Seek Proper Medicare, Banigo Tells Hepatitis Patients
The Rivers State Deputy Governor, Dr Ipalibo Harry Banigo has urged Hepatitis patients to seek proper medical examination and treatment to stem the spread of the disease.
Banigo stated this in a message in Government House, Port Harcourt, last Wednesday, in commemoration of the 2021 World Hepatitis Day.
According to the deputy governor, “Hepatitis is an inflammatory condition of the Liver caused by a variety of infectious viruses and non-infectious agents leading to a range of health challenges”.
The public health physician, who said fever, fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting are symptoms of the disease, noted that Hepatitis B and C are the most prevalent which claim over a million lives annually and three million infections.
Banigo, who is the chairman of the State Task Force on Immunization and Primary Healthcare frowned at the situation where people seek help from spiritual homes when they are ill disclosed that the State Chief Executive, Chief Nyesom Wike has provided top notch medical facilities to carter for the health needs of the Rivers people, and urged them to take advantage of the health facilities.
She warned against superstitious beliefs, stigmatization and discrimination of people with Hepatitis, adding that the current wave of Covid-19 pandemic calls for synergy, effective mobilization and sensitization of the public by both private and government agents.
It would be recalled that July 28 of each year is set aside to commemorate World Hepatitis Day.
Hepatitis has five main strains which includes A, B, C, D and E.
The theme for this year’s celebration is, “Hepatitis Can’t Delay”.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
