Let Us Join Hands To Tackle Malaria, Banigo Urges

The Rivers State Deputy Governor, Dr. Ipalibo Harry Banigo, says all hands must be on deck to tackle the malaria scourge in Africa.
Banigo stated this in a goodwill message to commemorate the 2021 World Malaria Day in Government House, Port Harcourt, last Saturday.
According to the deputy governor, “malaria was preventable, if we all take responsibility to keep our environment clean, get rid of stagnant water, which is the breeding ground for mosquitoes, ensure we sleep under insecticide treated bed nets and take the right medication when we fall ill”.
Banigo said under the watch of Governor Nyesom Wike, the prevalence rate of malaria in the state has reduced drastically to 11 per cent, noting that this was way below the national prevalence rate of 23 per cent.
The deputy governor attributed the success story to the state government’s deliberate efforts to upgrade health facilities for the better treatment of malaria, as well as the provision of equipment to ensure prompt testing before treatment, as stipulated by the National Malaria Guidelines.
