HIV/AIDS: ‘Behaviour Change, Bane Of Discrimination /Stigma’
As the world marks the 2021 “World Zero Discrimination Day”, today, an expert in HIV/AIDS, Dr Abiola Davies, says lack of behaviour change has been the major challenge facing discrimination and stigmatization against People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLHIV).
Davies, who spoke in an exclusive interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt, hinted that in spite of the extensive work done to totally eliminate discrimination and stigmatization of PLHIV, by people who know how HIV is transmitted but find it difficult to change their behaviour, discrimination still persist.
“Stigmatization still exists. It’s unfortunate that there’s still misconception on the mode of transmission (of HIV/AIDS).
“People know the mode of transmission, but it does not so much affect their behaviours. Behaviour Change is very difficult”, she said.
