Weight Lifting Coach Dismisses NSF Postponement As Distraction
Assistant Coach of the Rivers State Weight lifting Association, Mike Oyekachi has described the postponement of the National Sports Festival (NSF), tagged “Edo 2020,” as distraction to his team’s preparation for the task ahead.
Coach Oyekachi disclosed this yesterday in an exclusive interview with Tidesports in Port Harcourt.
According to him, the continual postponement of the competition had further distracted their adequate preparation for the task ahead.
“The competition has dragged on for too long. Besides the COVID-19 holiday, the festival has been shifted severally and it is not helping, l must say. When we think we are set for the fiesta, the shift in date will take us back to start all over again. That’s not funny at all. It is not fair,” Oyekachi said.
He explained that the team was currently on holiday to relax a bit from the stress gotten from intensive training sessions, preparing for the February 14 date, just before the postponement.
“ The team is on break now. Intensive training session will begin mid March to continue the preparation and further fortify our preparation for the task ahead., “ he added.
It would be recalled that the earlier scheduled 14 February commencement date for the “Edo 2020” National Sports Festival was shifted to April this year.
New date to be decided and communicated to states by host of the competition Edo State government and the Nigeria Sports Commission.
