Rivers United Football Club of Port Harcourt, yesterday at the Adokiye Amiesimeka Stadium defeated Heartland FC of Owerri 3-1 in match day five of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) 2020/2021 season.
The pride of Rivers proved too much for the Heartland FC players as they got the early goal in the 18th minute of the first half by Godwin Aguda, who converted a penalty kick to give the homers the lead.
It was not an easy game as Heartland FC was pressing to equalise but Rivers United’s defence was not taken, away by their touches.
United made it two in the 78th minute by Kazie Enyinnaya through a long cross from the left wing that caught Heartland FC defence off guard.
Five minutes later, Heartland FC pulled one back to make it 2-1 through a quick free kick but United did not relent by fighting back to ensure they kept the winning mentality.
In the 87th minute, the pride of Rivers got a free kick and was also taken quickly and they got the third goal that saw them defeat Heartland FC by 3-1.
With the result, United is now 12 points on the top of the log, after playing five matches, winning four and losing only one.
