Gombe Commissioner Urges Husbands To Sensitise Women, Children On COVID-19
Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare in Gombe State, Mrs Naomi Awak, has appealed to husbands to fully sensitise women and children on the dangers of Coronavirus.
Awak made the plea in an interview with our source in Gombe yesterday.
She said, women were the ones close to the children and it was important for them to be fully educated on the virus for them to guide the children against its possible spread.
“If women understand the dangers of the virus and the professionals’ advice against the spread of the virus, they will easily guide the children properly.
“Not only the women, children should observe protective measures such as maintaining social distancing and personal hygiene which have been proven to be effective in the control of the dreaded virus,” Awak said.
According to her, it is also good for the children to stay at home to halt possible spread of the Coronavirus in the state.
The commissioner said the state government had taken proactive measures against the spread of the virus, hence the need for people to comply and continue with prayers.

The Head of Service (HoS) of Rivers State, Dr. Mrs. Inyingi S. I. Brown, has commended Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, for approving befitting accommodation for Permanent Secretaries in the state.

According to the Head of Service, Governor Fubara has continued to demonstrate uncommon commitment to the welfare of civil servants in Rivers State, stressing that such gestures underscore his people-oriented leadership style. Speaking on behalf of the Body of Permanent Secretaries, Dr. Brown congratulated Governor Fubara on the occasion of his 51st birthday, describing him as “a Governor who leads by serving.”
She further praised the governor’s service-driven and people-centred leadership approach, noting that it has significantly contributed to institutional stability and improved efficiency within the state’s public service. As part of activities to mark the governor’s birthday, the Body of Permanent Secretaries announced the sponsorship of 329 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) forms for indigent students across the state.
A breakdown of the initiative shows that 319 forms will be distributed across the 319 political wards in Rivers State, while five forms are allocated to non-indigenes and five forms to persons living with disabilities.
