INEC REC Resigns, Joins Bayelsa Guber Race
The Cross River State Independent National Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr Frankland Oyeins Briyal has resigned.
The REC’s resignation takes effect from yesterday, August 8, 2019. Briyal disclosed this in Calabar yesterday while addressing newsmen, saying he resigned to contest Bayelsa State governorship elections come November 16, 2019.
He said, “On Saturday, the 21st of July, 2019, a mammoth crowd of meaningful and pragmatic Bayelsans that sincerely love their State held a very peaceful rally in Yenagoa calling my humble self to contest the November 16, gubernatorial election.
“I have resigned my appointment as a Residential Electoral Commissioner in the Independent National Electoral Commission of the Federal Republic of Nigeria with effect from Thursday, Augus 8, 2019
“My resignation letter was addressed to Prof Mamoud Yakubu, the Hon Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission on Monday, August 5, 2019.
“I have also written a letter of appreciation to the humble, very intelligent, amiable and highly revered Chairman of the INEC on same day my letter of resignation was written,” he stated.
