2019 Polls: Army Ready To Provide Security – Commander
The Nigerian Army says it is collaborating with other security agencies to maintain high standard of professionalism and patriotism, to ensure peaceful conduct of the 2019 general elections.
The Commander, 311 Army Corps of Artillery Kontogora, Niger, Maj.- Gen. Abubakar Tarfa, said this at the 2018 West African Social Activities (WASA) in Kontagora at the weekend.
“Let me warn and also remind you of the need to remain apolitical in the performance of your duties during the election period as defaulters will be severely dealt with in line with the extant laws.
“You must conduct yourselves in a manner that befits a gentleman. You must be professional, patriotic and respect the rights of other citizens.
“We will remain consistent in our collaborations with other security agencies to ensure security of lives and properties and peaceful coexistence of all in Kontagora and beyond.
“The challenge before us is to ensure that appropriate and enabling environment is created so that the development of democratic process in the country is enhanced,” he said.
He said that the army would sustain the high standard of commitment towards maintaining peace, progress and political stability in the nation.
General Officer Commanding One Division, Nigerian Army, Kaduna, Maj.-Gen. Mohammed Mohammed, pledged the readiness of the army to sustain the annual WASA.
He called on the members of the Nigeria Armed Forces to come out enmase and cast their votes to the candidates of their choice in the elections.
He explained that the Army would ensure that enabling environment was created to enhance democratic process as the country approached the general elections.
Mohammed urged the personnel to sustain the high standard of commitment to maintain peace in the nation.
“We have the task of providing an enabling environment within our area of responsibility for the conduct of a free, fair, transparent and credible election.
