NUJ Lauds DSSRS Awards On Akwu, Monarch
The Rivers State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), has expressed her appreciation to the Rivers State Government, organisers of the 50 years Golden Jubilee Celebrations, and the Honours/Awards Sub-Committee for the awards of Distinguished Service Star of Rivers State (DSSRS) to two very special persons to the union.
The first is the late Mr. Ndagene Akwu, who grew through the ranks in unionism as Chairman of the Rivers State Television Chapel, Chairman of the State Council, Chairman of Zone F (South-South), before becoming President of the union, the first from the state.
We also appreciate the same award given to our indefatigable Patron, His Eminence, Chukumela Nnam Obi II, Oba (Eze-Ogba), Oba of Ogbaland, whose magnanimity and contributions to the development of the state in various capacities is unquantifiable.
As a body, we believe that the awards would go a long way to appreciate not just the contributions of our respected late colleague and leader, and patron, but also states in clear terms that hardwork indeed pays.
This will, to a large extent, instill in future generations the spirit of hard work, which our society needs to enhance that kind of development Nigeria needs to compete favourably in the comity of developed nations.
We also use this opportunity to call on the state government and privileged individuals to go beyond such occasions and put in place measures that would institute hard work and recognition for same, even when such persons are alive, especially in this era when focus seems to be more on making unexplainable wealth.
