RSG Delivers 18 Houses, Flags Off Two Hostels At BMGS
Birabi memorial Grammer School (BMGS) in Bori, headquarters of Khana Local Government Area, Rivers State, now wears a new look as the state government has completed 18 building structures in the school.
The Tide reports that the 18 houses include classroom blocks, staff quarters and library, amongst others.
Receiving keys of the completed structures from the contractor, at a handover ceremony Friday, Chairman, Rivers State Post Primary Schools Board, Chief David Briggs said the project was in fulfillment of the promise by the state Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike to give a facelift to dilapidated public schools in the state.
He remarked that the governor was committed to renovating old existing public schools across the state so that both students and staff would have very condusive place for teaching and learning.
Briggs expressed satisfaction at the high standard of jobs delivered, and commended the contractor for executing the projects according to specifications and also delivering in time.
He charged the people of the area to continue to give strong support to the Wike-led administration so as to continue to attract more government presence.
The Managing Director/CEO of Nsidor Express limited, the company that handled the contract, Chief Monday Ngbor, thanked Governor Nyesom Wike for the confidence reposed in him, and noted that the people of Ogoni were grateful to his administration for its passion in bringing development to Ogoniland, and reassured of Ogoni people’s strong support to his administration.
Highlight of the event was the flagging-off of two hostels in the school-one for male, the other for female students. They have capacity to contain a minimum of 600 students.
Chairman of the Rivers State Post Primary Schools Board, Chief David Briggs, said the contractor for the hostel project has four months to complete and deliver the projects.
He said the state government has already approved full payment for the project, urging the contractor not to entertain any fear concerning payment but to rather execute the project according to specifications.
Briggs further said that the board had called for bids on supply of desks for the classrooms.
While performing the groundbreaking for the hostel project, a PDP big wig and candidate for the House of Representatives rerun election in the area, Hon. Dum Deekor, explained that when Wike visited BMGS while he was a minister, he wept over the poor state of the school, and promised to give priority attention to it when he wins the governorship election.
“Today, I am happy, and the Ogoni people are happy that he did not leave the school to rot away but just as he promised, he has fulfilled his promise”, and assured the governor of total support.
