Police Smash Orashi Robbery Gang …Kill Igbudu, Fajo, Others
Relief has finally come the way of the people of Ahoada-East, Ahoada-West and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government areas of Rivers State, following the smashing by the police, weekend of a notorious armed robbery gang which has been terrorizing the areas.
Those killed during the gun battle with a team of the State Police Command include, the leader of the gang who was popularly called “General Igbudu,” Fajo, also known as “2i/c”, Small and three other members of the gang.
Briefing journalists at the State Police Command headquarters, Port Harcourt, yesterday, the State Commissioner of Police, Francis Mobolaji Odesanya, said the killing of the notorious armed robbers marked another mile-stone in the on-going war against crime and criminality in the state.
Odesanya, who was represented by the Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Omoni Nnamdi, disclosed that the Police received a distress call on Saturday at about 8.40pm that there was an armed robbery attack at Ihuike axis of the East-West Road in Ahoada-East Local Government Area.
According to him, the Ahoada Divisional Police Officer (DPO), in a swift response to the call, immediately mobilised a crack team to the scene, adding that the armed robbers, on sighting the Police patrol van, opened fire on the Police.
“While an 18-Seater bus heading from Benin to Port Harcourt was under attack, the driver lost control, and the car somersaulted, while three persons in the bus were feared dead, the rest of the passengers were rescued and are receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital”, he stated.
The State Commissioner of Police averred that six of the armed robbers were fatally wounded and died on their way to the hospital due to severe bleeding from gun injuries received during the gun duel with Police.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
