CRSG Inaugurates Ethical Re-Orientation Committee
The Cross River State
Government has called for attitudinal change and ethical re-orientation among Nigerians in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s change agenda.
Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mrs. Rosemary Archibong made the call while inaugurating a 21-member Cross River state orientation committee in Calabar.
She stressed the need for the people to support good governance in the state and the country at large, adding that the time had come to rebrand the state.
“More importantly is attitudinal change and ethical reorientation of the citizenry in line with the change agenda of President Buhari at the center”.
“Corruption has eaten deep into the fabrics of every sector of our nation’s development both in the private and public sector. We must do everything to support good governance in our state; we must rebrand our people and our state, both at heart and in the physical,” she said.
She said it was the responsibility of the committee to begin aggressive sensitization and mobilization of the citizens to support the policies, programmes and projects of the state government.
According to her, the inauguration of the committee is therefore meant to strengthen Cross River as a creativity-vibrant, tourism-based and educationally progressive state while maintaining her identity of cleanliness, greatness and peace.’’
The commissioner described orientation as the soul of a state which provides the direction from which change or transformation is driven.
She further reiterated the resolve of the present administration to provide good and qualitative governance through the governor’s signature projects.
“The 260km Super Highway is on course; the Calabar/Bakassi Deep Seaport is on course; and the Calabar Garment factory is almost ready for commissioning. All these lofty projects are designed to provide employment and make lives easy for the people,” she said.
Archibong urged members of the committee to go to every nook and cranny of the state and preach the message of peace and good governance.
The members of the committee were drawn from various groups and organizations including representative of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ); Market Association; Traditional Institution; and Students Union.
Responding on behalf of the committee a member, Mr. Kamonke Abang, assured the commissioner of the commitment of the members to work.
He further thanked the commissioner for coming up with the idea of setting up the committee, adding that it would go a long way in changing the mindset of the people towards activities of government.
