Wike Didn’t Tamper With LG Allocations –Nmerukini
The Rivers State Local Government Service Commission says the Governor, Nyesom Wike-led administration has not tampered with local government council allocations despite inheriting empty treasury from the previous administration.
The Chairman of the Commission, Chief Azubuike Nmerukini, who said this in an interview with newsmen in his office in Port Harcourt, also disclosed plans by the commission to audit the accounts of the 23 local government councils.
Nmerukini also said that all bonafide staff of local government councils in the state have been paid their salaries up to date, stressing that it was the policy of the administration to ensure that no civil servant is owed his or her salary.
In his word, “ We are going to audit the 23 local government councils. When the CTCs came, they said they wanted to audit, but I told them, if it is actual auditing, you may not finish before you leave office.
“CTC Function is just a little of the area, and does not go into major issues.”
Meanwhile, the chairman of the Rivers State local government service commission, has said that the dissolution of the caretaker committees of the 22 local government councils was in order.
He said that the law only guarantees caretaker committees three months to operate, stressing that the dissolution does not amount to witch hunting.
“The CTC is administrative arrangement . The law allows them for three months to administratively assist the local government councils to run their affairs, and urged the outgone caretaker committee members not to see the end of their administrations as dissolution based on expiration of their tenure, adding that as caretakers, they were expected to serve for only three months.
He further said that heads of local governments have been directed to lake charge of the councils pending the appointment of new caretaker committees.
