Police Arrest 214 Armed Robbers, Recovers 638 Ammunition
In its determination to stem
the tide of crime, the Rivers State Police Commend, has arrested 214 armed robbers for various criminal activities in the state.
The state police command also recovered from the armed robbers, a total of 638 ammunition and 312 arms of various degrees.
The out going state commissioner of police, Chris Ezike disclosed this during his valedictory press briefing at the police headquarters, in Port Harcourt, Monday.
CP Ezike explained that the score card covered months of July and August, adding that out of the 214 criminals arrested, 145 suspects had been charged to court.
According to him, the command within the period under review also recovered 41 different brands of vehicle and 30 Assorted motor cycles as well as N470,000 thousand naira which was returned to their owners.
The state police helmsman also told journalists that eleven kidnapped victims were also rescued from their abductors while eleven criminal suspects were killed, pointing out that the command lost some police men, while four were injured during the months under review.
He listed 12AK47 Riffles, 2 Assault Riffles, 1SMG, 27 pump Action Guns, 59 locally made Guns, 20 different magazines, 6 Dane guns, 7 locally made Double Barrel Guns, 9 Double Barrel short guns, 23 single Barrel Guns, I locally made Revolver Pistol, and I locally automatic gun as some of the fire arms recovered during his two months stay as the state police boss.
The former commissioner of police further disclosed that the Anti-kidnapping unit also arrested 22 suspects, killed eight during operation, while the Anti-cultism units arrested 107 suspects during the months of July and August.
CP Ezike who has been redeployed to Edo State command as the commissioner of police, averred that the efforts put in place so far, had made things better in the state, stressing that the command partnered with the state government at a strategic and tactical levels leading to increase in logistical holdings and greater support for police and general law enforcement operations in the state.
