Banigo Wants School Farm System Revived
Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Dr Ipalibo Banigo has enjoined school authorities in the state to revive the school farm system as part of their academic curriculum.
The deputy governor stated this at the thanksgiving/end of session programme of government Girls Secondary School, Oromenieke in Port Harcourt.
Banigo noted the decline in agricultural activities in both primary and secondary schools, stressing that agriculture remained a cardinal objective of the new Rivers vision towards achieving food security and job creation.
She said the Wike-led administration considers education key to all round development, stressing that the state government invest more in the educational sector in order to bring out the potential in the youths.
Banigo urged the students to concentrate on their academic pursuit which she said would determine what they become in future.
“Nothing good comes easy, but with persistent, perseverance and focus, you can achieve greatness, innovation is the key to the future, and as future leaders, you can begin to put in use all the skills you acquired from your teachers, she said.
She warned the students against social vices, noting that the menace of cultism in schools is regrettable and called on the students to champion the crusade against cultism.
“You must know that this is the way the devil is using to bring about destruction. Cultism is the foundation of all other evils in our society today, she said.
Dr Banigo expressed Governor Wike’s desire to reintroduce a pilot boarding school system and renovate all secondary schools in the state so as to enhance conducive learning environment and academic excellence.
Earlier, the Principal of the school, Dr Augusta Fubara commended the state government for its encouragement and commitment to the education sector.
The principal noted that the deputy governor, Dr Banigo, as first female Deputy governor in Rivers State, had not only demonstrated a strength of character in encouraging the women folk in the state but has also shown that women can be whatever they want to be through dint of hard work, focus, diligence and the fear of God.
She called on the state government to assist the school in infrastructure development.
Highlight of the event was the presentation of award of excellence to both the state Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike and his Deputy, Dr Ipalibo Banigo.
