Same-Sex Marriage: Anglican Church Disowns Bishop
The Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion has disowned the Bishop of its Kaduna Diocese, Most Rev. Idowu Fearon for accepting to serve as Secretary to the Church in England, which has openly embraced gay marriages.
The Bishop, Diocese of Niger Delta, Rt. Rev. Ralph Ebirien, who disclosed this at a press briefing in Port Harcourt, said that although the Primate, Church of Nigeria was not withdrawn Most Rev. Fearon’s License, the church will have no dealing with him.
He described the issue of gay marriage as one of the greatest challenges facing the Anglican Church Worldwide.
“The issue of Same Sex marriage is the problem of Anglican Church Worldwide Church of Nigeria is against it.
“But one of us accepted to go and serve as secretary in England. He is on his own.
“But what we know is that the Primate said that the bishop’s choice was personal and not the position of the Church.
He has no support from the Church in Nigeria. He is going without the Primate’s Blessing. We have not withdrawn his license,” he said.
Ebirien, who described Same Sex marriage as evil and satanic, also said that the Christian Community in Nigeria will remain eternally grateful to former President Goodluck Jonathan for rejecting Western Overtures to legalise Same Sex marriage in Nigeria.
He said that the Diocese of Niger Delta has remained peaceful throughout the years, adding that conflicts within the Diocese have been amicably resolved.
The cleric said that the Church has recorded tremendous success in evangelism and humanitarian activities, stressing that the Diocese has a training programme to develop the clergy and their wives to make them relevant in the 21st century.
He added that “Our Saviour’s Hospital”, owned by the Diocese was fully functional not just for Church members but the rest of the public, while two students are currently on undergraduate scholarship scheme of the Diocese.
Ebirien said that the Church also reached out to flood victims in the state through the donation of food items and clothings, and commended members of the public for their continuous support to the Diocese.
