State Newspaper Corporation (RSNC) have advised students wishing to make a career in journalism practice to study hard and develop writing skills that would see them through in their chosen career.
The Deputy News Editor of The Tide, Samuel Eleonu who gave the advice, said Journalism practice is not for unserious-minded individuals.
Eleonu gave the advice when students of Greenfield Secondary School, Port Harcourt visited the Rivers State Newspaper Corporation on a facility tour to acquaint themselves with news gathering techniques and production.
The Editor, however, intimated the students on news gathering and writing processes up to the production of the newspaper.
He reminded the students that the future of journalism lies on the potentials of the crop of young men and women who are willing to rule the world through writing.
Apart from newsroom, the students numbering 35 also visited the library, the computer, lithographic and production sections where they were briefed by heads of the respective sections.
The Editor told the enthusiastic students that the essence of the visit was to give them practical knowledge of news gathering and production.
He thanked the authorities and students of the institution for the choice of RSNC for the facility visit and expressed the hope that students would benefit immensely from the practiced experiences.
Most of the students who spoke to The Tide after the excursion, however, commended the school authority and the management of RSNC for the opportunity given to them for this facility visit.
