TUC Tasks Buhari On Electoral Promises

The Trade Union Congress (TUC) has called on the president-elect, Gen Muhammadu Buhari to ensure that he fulfills his electoral promises to Nigerians and bring the country to greater development heights.
Chairman of the TUC in Rivers State, Comrade Chika Onuegbu made the call in a press statement made available to The Tide.
Onuegbu, who congratulated Buhari over his electoral victory, said on resumption of office on May 29, the new leader should be proactive in tackling insecurity, poverty and unemployment and make life meaningful to the Nigerian citizenry.
The TUC leader also urged the new political leadership of the country to run a consultative and all-inclusive government to sustain the unity and progress of the country.
Onuegbu also emphasized the need for the Federal Government to be committed to workers’ welfare by reviewing the minimum wage, and also giving incentives for effective mobilization of Nigerian workers for optimal productivity.
Meanwhile, the TUC has called on the outgoing President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan and the National Assembly to pass the petroleum Industry Bill into law before the end of their tenure.
According to the TUC, the passage of the PIB into law would enhance local content development and boost productivity and indigenous participation in the petroleum sector.
The TUC expressed confidence in the democratic transition in the country, noting that Nigeria has set the pace for other African countries.
