NWPL 2015 Season To Begin May 2
The 2015 Season of the
Nigeria Women Premier League (NWPL) has been scheduled to commence on May 2. This was announced at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the board of the NWPL held in Abuja this week.
Disclosing this to Tidesports in a telephone interview, the Assistant Coach of Rivers Angels FC, Port Harcourt, Mr Whyte Ogbonda said that the Angels would not be caught unawares as the club is ready to intensify preparations for the season.
Meanwhile, according to Ogbonda, Rivers Angels have emerged champion of champions of the 2014 football season after beating Kogi Confluence Queens 1-0 in a champion of champions game organized as part of activities for the NWPL AGM.
The Angels who won the 2014 Women’s Federation Cup after beating Sunshine Queens 2-0 in Lagos were also declared winners of the 2014 league season and they received their trophy after the champion of champions game.
It would be recalled that the champions’ match was earlier scheduled to be played between the Angels and Pelican Stars of Calabar. But the Pelican failed to make it to the match due to financial challenges.
Subsequently, the Kogi team was drafted and the Angels subdued them courtesy of an Ngozi Ebere penalty goal at the Abuja National Stadium.
