Rep Explains Support For Buhari
A member representing
Degema/Bonny Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. (Dr) Sokonte Davies, says the APC presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) is the right person to rescue the country from its myriads of problems given his antecedents in government.
Hon. Davies, who gave the indication during an interactive forum with journalists in Port Harcourt recently said Buhari has the pedigree to turn around the fortunes of the country for the better.
The lawmaker equally noted that Buhari was also capable of rescuing the nation from the throes of corruption and maladministration going by his pedigree, pointing out that if elected the next President of the country, he would restore order and sanity in the country.
He explained that he decided to support the former Head of State because when he was in power in 1984, he created order in the country, and recalled that when he applied for scholarship to study abroad in 1983, it was the Scholarship Board that was in place during the Buhari administration that awarded the scholarship to him alongside other five indigenes of Rivers State.
According to him, they got the scholarship purely on merit, as they knew nobody on the corridors of power and in other high places.
To further buttress his point that Buhari was not sick, Hon. Davies said as Director of Finance and Administration of Buhari’s Presidential Campaign Organisation, the office of the APC presidential candidate was on the topmost floor of the building also housing his own office.
“Buhari chose to be at the topmost office. That is not the type of choice sick and elderly people make”, he intoned, stressing that the former Head of State was capable of arresting the drift staring Nigerians in the face today.
“Nigeira is drifting today. We need Buhari. Buhari’s mental capacity is such that a school he attended in the United States said they wished Nigeria can be producing more Buharis. The record the former Head of State set in the school is still standing several years after,” he said.
The lawmaker also likened Buhari to former President Nelson Mandela of South Africa, and others whom he said, in spite of their advanced ages, were able to rescue and resuscitate their countries in times of crisis.
