Ex-Governor Donates N10m To Fire Victims
The former governor of
Sokoto State and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa, has donated N10 million to victims of the fire that gutted some parts of Sokoto central market.
Bafarawa donated the money in Sokoto when he visited the victims to commiserate with them on their loss.
“I am not here to play politics, but to show my sympathy to you.
“The money is not in any way to compensate you, but to help in alleviating your suffering,” he said, and appealed to the victims to regard the incident as an act of God.
Responding, the chairman of “Area J” section of the market, Alhaji Kabiru Dodo, commended Bafarawa for the gesture and pledged that the money would be judiciously distributed among the victims.
Eleven shops at the section of the market were gutted by fire on Tuesday night as reported by our correspondent.
It was also reported that fire destroyed assorted goods worth millions of naira although nobody lost their lives or sustained injury.
