Crisis has hit the ongoing Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) 11th Detegates Conference in Abuja over an alleged misappropriation of over N40 billion contributors fund for the NLC Kriston-Lally Affordable Housing Project nationwide.
The Tide gathered that pandemonium broke out at the venue of the delegates conference when one of the delegates called for the financial report of the mortgage scheme, a project alleged to be stalled due to fraud.
The source who spoke with The Tide from the conference venue said delegates were shocked astounded as chairs, bottled water, satchets and other items were freely thrown from one end of the hall to the other, while delegates scaunpered for safety.
The source said it took the intervention of the three NLC Presidential candidates, Comrade Igwe Achese of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural gas Workers (NUPENG), Comrade Joe Ajaero of National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) and Comrade Ayuba Wabba of the National Union of Medical and Health Workers NUMHW) to bring the situation under control.
The call by the outgoing NLC President, Comrade Abduhaweed Omar, for the acceptance of the financial report on the stalled project ignited another crisis and uproar.
The delegates were divided on the adoption of the financial report while some agreed that it should be adopted some union leaders disagreed.
However, The Tide was told that majority of the delegates finally voted for the adoption of the financial report with the assurance from the outgoing NLC President that the contributors money was intact and that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was investigating the alleged fraud.
Omar said the money was secure through the action his leadership took by ensuring that the NLC was a signatory to the account.
The Tide was reliably informed by one of the union Leaders from the state and a delegate to the conference that over N40 billion contributed by workers towards an affordable housing scheme, caused the commotion.
The project, as a joint venture between the NLC and the private firm, started in May, 2013.
