Failed Contracts: COS Slams Wike, Chinda
Chief of Staff, Government House, Rivers State, Sir Tony Okocha says Minister for State Education, Chief Nyesom Wike should account for the failed contracts awarded to him by the state government during the first tenure of the administration.
He also challenged former Commissioner for Environment, Kingsley Chinda to explain to Rivers people how funds for the purported Port Harcourt landscaping project was executed.
Okocha, in a chat with newsmen at the weekend in Port Harcourt, said both Wike and his political crony Chinda, lied when they accused the governor for the handling of the projects.
He accused Wike and Chinda of handling numerous projects in the first tenure of Governor Amaechi as cabinet members, saying most of the contracts they executed failed and did not meet standards.
” Some of the roads have all gone terribly bad because he does not have the penchant to do proper job. The penchant for him was to criminally acquire as much funds as he can into his pockets”, Okocha said.
He enumerated some of the projects handled by Wike to include, Model Primary Schools at Ozuoba, Oroigwe, Rukpokwu, Eneka I and II, Woji, Ogbogoro, Rumuolemeni among others.
Besides the schools built by the junior minister of education, Okocha revealed that Wike’s company Easy-E handled internal roads in Rumuepirikom, GU Ake link Road, Rukpokwu and Eneka Roads which have all failed.
On funds for the landscaping of Port Harcourt, the chief of staff to Governor Amaechi challenged Chinda to explain what happened since the contract was awarded when he was commissioner for environment.
Okocha said, “ Wike was a member of the State Executive Council and I’am happy to note that Kingsley Chinda, one of his cronies, was commissioner for environment, and so, if there’s anybody to ask question on landscaping, it should be the commissioner, and not the governor.”
Recall that last week during a tour of wards in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Governor Amaechi had accused Chief Wike of handling construction of 14 model primary schools and attempting to stop the appointment of another Obio/Akpor son as chief of staff.
