Rotary Plans Mass Literacy Campaign …Inaugurates Exco, Sunday
Ahead of the planned in
auguration of the 2014/2015 Executive Committee, this Sunday, the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Central District 9140 is to embark in a mass literacy campaign across the state.
Chairman of the Inauguration Planning Committee, Rotarian Paul Ben-Cookey who disclosed this during a courtesy call on the General Manager of the Rivers State Newspaper Corporation (RSNC), Mr. Celestine Ogolo said that the club would also embark on water and sanitation campaigns across communities in the state.
According to him, the club intended to provide boreholes to communities and schools and also build convenience adding that the campaign against polio will be intensified.
Other programmes, according to him are the provision of empowerment scheme for rural market women as well as career guidance and counselling programme in schools.
The committee chairman described The Tide Newspaper as an important organ of information, stressing that it is against this background that the club is partnering with The Tide to showcase its activities.
Rotarian Ben-Cookey commended the Rivers State Government for its decision to purchase a Rotary Machine for the corporation.
Responding, the General Manager of the Rivers State Newspaper Corporation, Mr Celestine Ogolo said that the Corporation and the club share the same ideals of giving services to the society.
Mr Ogolo said that the corporation would build on the partnership to show case the activities of the club to the outside world stressing that, as one of the clubs that is dear to the corporation, The Tide would support the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Central in all its activities.
