Commission Plans To Sponsor 2015 Dangote Gynmastic Tourney
The Director-General, Na
tional Sports Commission (NSC), Gbenga Elegbeleye, has in Abuja said the commission would sponsor the Alhaji Aliko Dangote Open Gymnastics Championships next year.
Elegbeleye told newsmen that he was very impressed with the performance of gymnasts at the championships, which was held at the Abuja National Stadium’s Gymnasium Hall.
He said they were the future of the sport in Nigeria.
“With the little I have seen today (Sunday) and what I have heard, I think the NSC will begin to pay closer attention to GFN’s activities.
“We will start by fully sponsoring the next edition of the championships, so as to critically monitor and evaluate the gymnasts’ performances.
“I really think these gymnasts can win a lot of medals for the country in future,’’ Elegbeleye, who was a guest at the closing ceremony of the championships’ fifth edition, said.
The NSC director-general said he was particularly impressed by one of the performances of a female gymnast, Temitope Are, and rewarded her with the sum of N50,000.
He promised to support her at the forthcoming National Sports Festival in Calabar in November.
