Expert Tasks Club Owners On FIFA Standards
The Chairman of 36 Li
ons FC of Badagry, Gafaru Liameed, has called for a seminar to educate football club owners on adopting FIFA standards in club management.
Liameed, whose club won the 2013 Skye Bank-sponsored Oba Cup competition, told newsmen that many flaws nearly marred the Lagos Divisional Football Championship (LADFA).
The club chairman said even though his club won the competition, he believed there were avoidable flaws which called for a round-table discussion to resolve.
“Issues like that of a player crossing to another club without proper clearance from the competition management needs to be really thrashed out.
“Players’ welfare should be our concern also, no matter how little, because most of the players depend on the monthly stipends for their upkeep,’’ Liameed, who is the spokesman of the Lagos Club Owners’ Forum, said.
He expressed concern about a situation where players would be rendered hopeless in matters of welfare by the club owners.
“Such practice was not in consonance with FIFA standards and needs to be corrected for progress to be made,’’ the club chairman said.
He however appealed to the Lagos State Government to organise a seminar for the club owners for them to adapt to international standards in club management.
