Monarch Hails Council Boss Over Agric Inputs
The Paramount Ruler
of Ogbogolo Community in the Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State, Chief Geofrey Ikogha, has commended the Chairman of the Council, Hon. Awori Miller for the provision of agricultural inputs to farmers.
Chief Ikogha who spoke to our correspondent in Ahoada last weekend said soon after last year’s flood, farmers in his area got a boost through the provision of post relief materials to the people.
He said apart from food items that were provided, the Council boss also expended a reasonable amount of money for the up keep of flood victims.
“Actually, they sent some seedlings to enable the farmers replant even though the farmers had the challenge of brining the items home due to financial handicap”, he said.
According to him, the farmers pulled resources together and raised funds to enable them move all the items from the local government headquarters at Akinima to Ogbogolo.
He further explained that even at that, some items were still left at the Council as the farmers could not raise enough funds so the rest were left to rot at the local government headquarters.
Speaking on the preparedness of his Community and farmers for the 2013 flood, Chief Ikogha said the farmers was hopeless.
He said the state and local government should make better arrangements for the evacuation of people to be affected even as he said various meetings and consultations have been held by the State and LGAs in view of the expected flooding this year.
As at the time of going to press, efforts to speak with the Chairman of Ahoada West Local Government, Hon. Awori Miller was not successful but a reliable source at the Council said all post flood materials were duly collected and distributed.
