Gombe Disowns Team After Scandalous Defeat
Football critic Shuiabu Gara Gombe has disowned and disbanded his club Bubayaro FC after they colluded in the scandalous 67-0 scoreline in the amateur league play-offs.
Gara Gombe told newsmen that he expressly ordered the team not to take part in both the state and national play-offs, but his directives were ignored by team officials.
“This is a shame to Gombe State, and to Nigeria,” he said. “I told them earlier this year that I did not want them to take part in any competition.
“When they played the state elimination, I was not even aware. They only came to me to say they needed funds for the zonal qualifiers in Bauchi, and I told them not to go.
“But I understand there is a politician who has been using the team manager and coach.”
Gara Gombe, an outspoken critic of the current NFF board, said he was in Lagos when the games were played
“As soon as I heard the result, I came back and I have disbanded the team. In addition, I have written a petition to the police in Bauchi to investigate this shame and arrest anyone found to be involved.”
