LMC Cautions Club Officials Over Misguided Utterances
The League Management Company (LMC) has warned that it will no longer tolerate misguided statements from club officials as unguarded utterances can ruin the integrity of the league.
The LMC’s Chairman, Nduka Irabor, told newsmen in Lagos that the body would create stiffer rules against untrue and offensive utterance.
He explained that lately, some club officials had accused referees of bad calls during league matches, some of which appeared instigating.
Irabor urged club officials to be mindful that the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) had values that needed to be held in high esteem.
“Referees are constantly being reminded to be fair, firm and impartial. We would never stop drumming up that message.
“However, it does not then mean that every complain you hear is a well founded complain. There is a procedure, a process and a platform for lodging such complain by club officials.
“They must be mindful that there is a value to this league that they unwittingly erode by their act of omission or commission.
“Definitely, there are existing rules to deal with this but we’ve already commissioned our lawyers to find sterner acceptable ways to handle this.
“We are going to begin to implement some of these things. It does not need to be rowdiness; even utterances are going to be punishable.”
He advised club officials to uphold the virtues of professionalism in order to improve on the league to meet global standards.
